I was invited to a one of a kind food event that i couldn’t wait to go and sit down from the moment I got the invite. Why it was one of a kind was precisely for the combinations of olive oil and pasta from known brands, Oliviers&Co. and Va Bene Pasta Deli.
If you have come across my blog before, you would figure that Va Bene is one that is rather very close to my heart and stomach. Absolutely a delight being there for its authentic vibe. It was my first time however to try the premium line of Extra Virgin Olive Oil brand, Oliviers&Co. which I’ve heard many great things from.
Together with other media, we met charming and well spoken Va Bene’s Executive Chef and owner, Massimo Veronesi, who curated a special menu utilizing Oliviers&Co.’s products. These took centerstage to highlight different unique flavours of every dish as prepared and executed by the Chef.
Each dish, which I will all run down in a bit, features a O&Co. product that not only complements it, but serves as the main ingredient to give a delicious twist for an more intruguing, upscale taste. Since O&Co. has quite a selection of specialty olive oils and condiments, Chef Massimo chose the right oil for each meal, giving them an unexpected, delectable flavor. Very, very exciting.
First up: the Tuna Carpaccio. Perfect way to get our buds going for the rest of the dishes. The dish had Tuna Carpaccio with straciatella cheese, celery, dill, and capers, finished with O&Co. Lemon Specialty Olive Oil. This was outwardly refreshing and light to eat, a perfect starter that day.
Here comes the pasta: Aglio E Olio, a traditional Italian pasta. It is homemade Linguine with sautéed clams, and zucchini, finished with O&Co. Lemon Specialty Olive Oil. Quite a simple dish with an overwhelming sea taste that is both citrusy and fresh.
We had then the Tomato Risotto – Carnaroli risotto cooked with plump sun-dried tomatoes, basil, buffalo straciatella cheese, and finished with O&Co. 2017 Affiorato Oil. Quite a creamy texture that sent our palates to the Mediterranean.
Bringing the summer to our tongues, we were able to try Va Bene’s Summer Panna Cotta. It was a vanilla orange pannacotta and it was topped with O&Co. Blueberry Balsamic Condiment. This was a special dessert but I loved the others that came next.
The next one is very intriguing just by the name of it: Olive Oil Ice Cream. It is vanilla ice cream brought to the next level with an add on of O&Co. 2017 Affiorato Oil, topped with honey and chopped almonds and lemon zest. I don’t know how else you can up the ante from than that.
We finished the meal with, wait for it, another ice cream dish that was a league of its own. Strawberry & Fig, which consisted of vanilla ice cream on a bed of fresh strawberries, drizzled with O&Co. Fig Condiment. This was my runaway favorite. I love the ripeness of the fruit and the strong sour taste of the balsamic dressing.
Quite a special menu indeed prepared with utmost precision and consideration to bring out the distinct characteristics of each oil with their offering, and more.
