Ruffino Wine

I had to put on my hat of sophistication when I received an invite to a wine-tasting event. This was held at the Paper Moon Cafe, penthouse of Knightsbridge Residences in Poblacion, Makati. Together with other media and guests, we were introduced to Ruffino Italian Wines.

Fancying wine over other alcoholic drinks, I particularly prefer the sparkling and sweeter variety. But tonight I am privileged to have been introduced to the cornerstone of the Italian wine scene, being renowned all over the world for over a century now. Ruffino Wines has long been in the play field, producing high-quality wines for diverse palates, overall celebrating the enjoyment of the Italian lifestyle.

Ruffino Italian Wines is very rich in history, with its founding traced way back to 1877 by two Ruffino cousins. Many events and milestones have transpired since then – from having been awarded for their quality produce to being the first to export Chianti, a famous Tuscan Red Wine that’s integral to Italy’s wine culture.

Spread over 6 estates all over Tuscany, Italy, Ruffino’s philosophy is aimed at achieving top-quality wines through the careful selection of vineyards, grape varieties, soil, and modern cellar techniques, combined with vast experience. Ruffino considers elegance, balance, and drinkability the most important characteristics in their wines.

Ruffino also produces a more modern range of innovative wines that have more robust ripeness, more fruit, and lower acid, as well as more modern style wines from other regions of Italy. That’s on top of classic wines such as Riserva Ducale, having a style that has been the benchmark of Italy for many years, earthy, terroir-driven, high in acidity, and restrained. In other words, wines that are made to accompany food perfectly.

Speaking of which, we got to pair a variety of Ruffino Wines with fine food from Paper Moon. We got served a platter of cold cuts, fine cheese, brick oven pizza, beef tenderloin steak and two types of their best selling red sauce pasta dishes.

It was a night of being educated about reds, whites, varietals and the several and crucial factors when it comes to winemaking. Ruffino had developed a strong reputation in making “ideal wine” early on their venture precisely because they began advising local farmers on grape selection and blending, yielding mature, clean, balanced wines, which made the event even more enriching. I also got to chat with wine enthusiasts, learning and absorbing some of their passions.
