Do you recall my post last August 25 when I met the newest actor on the rise, Empoy while I was feasting on street food? Back then was the launch of this two-month campaign. Just recently, SM Hypermart ended it with a two day stretch of festivities to mark its unprecedented success.
The SM Hypermarket’s Street Food Festival roadshows was held at SM Mall of Asia after pocket events in other branches- SM City Clark, SM Center Muntinlupa, and SM City Fairview.
The goal was to increase the popularity of Filipino street food as we turn and tend to give more attention to global cuisine. It was a worthy initiative as local players to continue to compete with the rest of the world on food.
SM Hypermarket saved the best for last in a two day Grand Finale at SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Music Hall last November 2 and 3. Here I personally witnessed the overflowing of different evolution of street foods, as well as, a host of celebrities and chefs invited to create a bigger crowd of mall goers.
The street food culture perfectly sums up how much Filipinos love to eat. Anything goes, different styles of cooking, sensational mixes of flavors and ingredients, fusing foreign with local techniques to create very Pinoy versions of tempting dishes that are deliciously satisfying but still very practical and affordable. It is one of the reasons why the Philippines is among the top food destination in the world.
So what makes the Grand Finale the biggest one yet? Aside from good food, the event offers great deals on favorite food buys allowing shoppers to recreate the street food experience in their homes. Celebrity chefs headed by Chef Boy Logro did a series of demonstrations on how to prepare different meals ranging from impressive potlucks to easy-to-make merienda for the family.
SM Hypermarket also partnered with certain brands to be the source of certain ingredients or to complement your go-to street food. These were Unilever, Knorr, Maggi, San Miguel, CDO, Alaska, Century, Del Monte, Bounty Fresh, Farm Fresh, Joy Dishwashing, Delimondo, Mama Sita’s, Selecta Ice Cream, Federated, Arcy, Nestle Ice Cream Temptations, Clara Ole, Mekeni, and Dazz Dishwashing.
With a barrage of good food, excellent deals, new recipes, and celebrities, SM Hypermarket Street Food Festival’s Grand Finale was one of the memorable marks to the Philippines’ local food scene.
