Sobremesa, Ortigas

Do you know that you can travel places just by taste at Sobremesa? This latest restaurant in Sapphire Bloc in Ortigas is quickly gaining a following, mostly composed of food fanatics, bloggers, and celebrity foodies. Truth be told, I co-manage this restaurant, and you might think that I am hard selling Sobremesa but I am writing and promoting in all honesty since I sincerely believe in the brand.

Sobremesa offers the dining public with a fusion of South American and Filipino inspired cuisine. These special dishes are meticulously and lovingly prepared by Sobremesa’s part-owner and chef, Benjo Tuason. He is also the person behind the preparation of sumptuous dishes in URBN and Relik. Celebrity siblings Daniel and Vanessa Matsunaga tried their hands at running a food business by joining Chef Benjo in operating Sobremesa.

“Sobremesa” is the Spanish word for “table talk,” or the conversations that we have after having a meal with the people we had lunch or dinner with. Sobremesa delivers well with its promise of bringing in great conversations over good food as they offer a wide range of food items to choose from. They aim to please even the pickiest eater or one with a discerning palate.

One of Sobremesa’s headlining dishes is their Peruvian spiced roasted chicken, which is an oven-roasted chicken dish that’s rich in aroma and marinated in a load of spices, served with three special sauces, in sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors. Their Barako-coffee crusted rib-eye will surely awaken your senses, given its tenderness, and robust coffee flavor and aroma, aside from the taste of the signature blend of herbs and spices. Chef Benjo makes a playful take on Sobremesa’s latest dish on their menu, which is the spiced pork belly with roasted garlic mashed potato and pineapple salsa. The char-grilled meat was cooked in such a way that the flavors were so enhanced, it gives in so much pleasure to one’s taste buds.

The restaurant also boasts of decadent desserts and it’s recently launched line of signature cocktails. These offerings in Sobremesa are enough reasons for foodies to linger in the restaurant even longer.

For those who are in the lookout for restaurants that offer good food where you can have fruitful conversations with friends and family, Sobremesa is that rare gem you are looking for that’s smacked right in the middle of Ortigas, Pasig City.
