Family recipes are one of the best traditions that could be passed down to future generations. We met an example of these recently on my food crawl. Let me introduce you to Zakee Middle East and Chef Saife.
Using the recipes of Chef Saife’s Jordanian dad, Zakee initially put up food carts before they eventually settled down into having a restaurant in a fixed location. This spot is located in a relatively quiet space in Middle East at Bayan-bayanan Eastway Drive, Marikina City.
Along with some media friends, we were able to sample a feast of Zakee Middle East’s best sellers. It was a fine breezy Sunday afternoon.
First to come out were appetizers, also known as perfect Pita Bread partners, Hummus made of chickpeas (Php 95) and Moutabal from eggplants (Php 95). Another worth experimenting to would be their version of Ox Brain (Php 95). It was mushy good! By the way, you can get additional Pita Bread for only Php 15 a piece.
Rounding up the starters were hot enough Shakshouka (Php 95), poached eggs in a sauce made of tomatoes, chili peppers, and onions; and Keema (Php 125), a savory beef dish with loads of Mediterranean spices.
Snack time or merienda is made more delicious with their sandwiches, popularly known as the Shawarma. Enjoy them with their two variations of Beef (Php 75) and Chicken (Php 65). I prefer the latter more for its tender and flavor-filled meat. It was interesting to note that fillings were also quite generous!
For the rice meals, we were served with the Beef Kebab Biryani Rice (Php 145) and Chicken Kebab With Rice (Php 125). I suggest having these after work, they are both filling and worth the price.
If you’re out with the barkada and want a dish to pair with beer while taming your hunger, then you should try their tender Sizzling T-Bone Steak (Php 175). Another great candidate is Zakee’s 12” Middle Eastern Pizza (Php 275), a crispier touch of the Italian pie.
If you’re craving for some traditional Mediterranean, Zakee’s Middle East is worth trying. The prices to start are unbelievably low! They are open from 4 pm to 2 am, Sundays to Thursdays and 4 pm to 3 am, Fridays and Saturdays.
